February, 2008
CD101.9 has turned out the lights!!  Last Tuesday (2/5/08 - 4:45pm), I got a text message stating that 45 minutes prior, they flipped the switches to a Rock format.  All employees of CD101.9 were ordered to a 3:00pm mandatory meeting that day only to be told that within the hour, the station would be flipping their switch to a pop format, leaving 40+ employees with pink slips in their hand....the station had slumping ratings between Nov. 04 - Aug. 05, when they snuck into a NY Chill format, but was not well received....the station lost over 1/2 their audiencee and eventually switched back, but it was not the same....RIP,  WQCD (1988-2008). I had the pleasure of doing thier station jingle from 1998-2005 before they flipped to chill. That format flip ultimately became the demise of the station.

This whole stunning sensation brought back BAD memories, when WRVR flipped the station format of contemporary jazz to a country-western format back in 1981. I think it's time that we look at the format carefully, fix what's wrong with it, correct and make it better before this trend happens across the format.

A benefit was scheduled for Monday 2/26/07 to help pianist Larry, who was burned out of his home last month. The January 7 fire in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, destroyed the living quarters of the house he shared with a friend. Willis is one of the great journeyman pianists in modern jazz. His resumé includes work with Jackie McLean, Stan Getz, Cannonball Adderley, Blood Sweat & Tears, Branford Marsalis, Carla Bley and Steve Swallow, Roy Hargrove, the Fort Apache Band and David "Fathead" Newman. These days, he leads his own trio.
