Songs My Father Would Dig

Bob Baldwin pays heartfelt homage to his father, Bobby Baldwin, by dedicating his music to him. Influenced by his father's teachings on piano playing and jazz music, Bob recreates the 1960’s Cool Jazz sound.

In a cool jazz 1960’s musical mindset, he interprets the music of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock and his late cousin, Larry Willis (who played with the original Blood Sweat and Tears, Hugh Masakela and Jerry Gonzalez), and a couple of original compositions. Bob is doing his thing on a 100 year old Steinway piano recorded in Queens, NY.

LIVE SHOW BIO: Bob Baldwin is an American pianist, composer, producer, arranger and radio host whose career spans nearly four decades of contemporary jazz, R&B, Brazilian music and urban jazz. He's recorded and toured in 6 continents, including Brazil, South Africa, London, Toronto, Dubai, and Maya Riviera (Mexico), to name a select few.

Baldwin’s live performance résumé spans major festivals, international stages and some of contemporary jazz’s most respected venues. Recent and notable appearances include the Toledo Jazz Festival, co-headlining with Lindsey Webster; three appearances at the Hartford Jazz Festival; the Dubai Jazz Festival; Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival in Johannesburg, South Africa; Jacksonville Jazz Festival, opening for the Yellowjackets; Atlanta Jazz Festival, opening for Ray Barretto; City of Lights Jazz Festival; and the Capital Jazz Festival, along with appearances aboard the Capital Jazz SuperCruise. His more intimate club and theater appearances include Blues Alley, Middle C Jazz in Charlotte, The Iridium and The Cutting Room in New York City, St. James Live and The Perfect Note in Atlanta, City Winery Atlanta, and Jazz Forum Arts in Tarrytown, New York, among others—frequently performing to sold-out or near-capacity audiences.

Collaboration has long been an integral part of Baldwin’s live identity. His signature NewUrbanJazz Party has featured an impressive lineup of guest artists over the years, including Kirk Whalum, Rick Braun, Walter Beasley, Marion Meadows, Tom Browne, Nils, Althea René, and the late Chuck Loeb. Baldwin also joined Walter Beasley and Tom Browne to form the crowd-pleasing “Killer B’s” — Baldwin/Beasley/Browne collaboration. Additional stage partnerships have included performances with Mike Phillips, Lin Rountree, Julian Vaughn, Darren Rahn and others. These collaborative concerts reflect Baldwin’s approach to live performance: combining musicianship, spontaneity and audience connection while creating musical chemistry that has often carried from the concert stage into subsequent studio collaborations.
